Quotes for the Travel Junkie

Image
I don't know about you, but there are some lines which stay with you long after you have read them. Each with its own timbre, each has lingered. Here are some :           Because we all long to let go, be free. Because we all need a break from the banal monotony Because you have to seek out and search for the most exquisite experience. That which is brilliant will take some effort to be seen Because some times, you have to loose it all to find yourself Because fear cannot be eradicated unless you take that leap of faith and understand your fear. Fear comes from the unknown. That we know can never scare us. Because routine is tedious, and exhilaration is a drug we all crave.  Because we have to go on. Because we are a part of the nature, it is a part of us. You cannot separate what is meant to stay together for long...

On the Road : The WOES while Travelling

Image
Not trying to sound like a paranoid freak, but heading out alone to explore the world (which is a big bad place) might not end pleasantly if you are not careful. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Some tips to keep you safe while you are bitten by the travel bug  :::   1.  Being duped  This is the most common of all. You go to a new place and if your luck is as bad as mine (which is very rare ) then you will be duped by everyone-from the hotel manager to the cab drivers to vendors. Your tactic  : Thanks the internet, and look up every detail about that place- economy, cab fares, hotel prices, etc. Check up the crime rates, and look up the phone number of the police, ambulance, women help and fire brigade. Better safe than sorry. 2. Unknowingly breaking a law I wrote unknowingly because I have assumed people are smart enough not to fall unto unnecessary trouble in a foreign land. Even if you don't, there is a very high prob...

Learning a New Language : Tips and Hacks

Image
We all have struggled with some language at one point of our life. Right now, finding myself in the south of my country, I am forced to recall the earlier methods as to how I managed learning  three different languages in my childhood. Devote your free time to it, while standing in a line, or riding the bus, even while you are bored and would rather chat, pick your new interest over other things. 2. GOING OLD SCHOOL You need to write it down. There is really no other alternative. Write down the new words , their meanings, and keep tabs on your progress. Do NOT refrain from picking up that pencil, and remember, it is how you learnt your first languages when you were a kid. 3. DUOLINGO AND TRANSLATOR T...

The Chubby Kid's Rantings

Image
This is not a motivational article because let's face it : it will always be weird and sad. This is not about change. This is about acceptance and evolution. This is to all the chubby girls/guys who are self-depreciating themselves for too long. Not anymore. So I was waiting for my pizza at the counter while watching with a gaping mouth at the workers sprinkling the mozzarella on the bread. Then my fit and perfect cousin comes up ans asks me,"Do you want extra cheese?" And I  am like, " Did you purposefully say that to make me feel like shit?" , but I don't say it. I look at my tummy and then his flat one and then at the kid with his hands dripping in cheese and I'm like,"Screw it. Go get cheese". The pang of jealousy that I just talked about makes an unwelcome and often occurrence to all us chubbys. At departmental stores, dhabas, traffic, wedding ceremony ( at the food part, or the only-thing-we-attend-weddi...
